Follow the Spark: What Your Desires Are Trying to Tell You
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Desire is often misunderstood. Some think it is selfish. Others think it is unreliable. But the truth is, desire was God's idea. He created your heart to want things, not just any things, but good things, meaningful things, things that reflect His character and your design.
Your desires are not here to mislead you. They are here to help you pay attention. Often, they are the first spark that signals something sacred inside you, a longing for beauty, connection, justice, healing, or creativity. The desires that keep returning, even when life gets noisy, are worth noticing.
Desire Isn’t a Distraction. It’s a Direction.
You were not made to simply survive your days. You were made to want. And not just small things, but bold things. There is a reason some dreams stir you and others do not. There is a reason certain problems break your heart more than others. There is a reason your face lights up when you talk about that one thing.
Desire is not your enemy. It is one of the ways God gets your attention.
When You Listen to Your Heart, You Hear God’s Whisper
In Discover Your Divine Design, desire helps you name what brings you life. It’s not about chasing every impulse or ignoring wisdom. It’s about learning to tell the difference between surface wants and soul longing. When you follow the thread of what delights your spirit, you often discover the very place God wants to use you most.
This is not about finding passion in order to build a platform. It is about tuning your ear to what brings joy, peace, energy, and purpose, and following that path with God.
Reflect:
What have you stopped letting yourself want? What dream or direction keeps tugging at your heart, no matter how much you try to push it aside? Read Psalm 37 again. What if God placed that desire in you on purpose, not to tease you, but to lead you?
